How ChatGPT can help business owners create content

If you’re a business owner, there’s no doubt that you’ve probably heard about ChatGPT.

Launched in November 2022, ChatGPT is an AI (Artificial Intelligence) bot that answers questions, writes content, and more. It’s set the business world on fire, with people giving positive and negative opinions on the bot.

Whether you’re into AI and robots writing your content or not, there are some points to consider from both sides of the argument. Let’s explore.

What is ChatGPT?

If you have heard about ChatGPT, here’s a quick introduction to the bot that’s taken the world by storm.

ChatGPT is an AI tool from OpenAI, a significant company in the AI industry. The tool is designed to help you answer questions and create content. ChatGPT formulates responses based on ‘natural language’ prompts.

You can keep drilling down your questions to get more specific, with ChatGPT picking up your cues to write the content.

But one thing to remember is that ChatGPT is drawing its info from the internet, so the facts you’re receiving may not be 100% correct. OpenAI has been open and honest about this and warned users to check their content.

Is ChatGPT a good tool for content creation?

Yes and no! Let’s stay optimistic and start with the positives.

As a content manager, I’ve looked at the use of ChatGPT when it comes to creating content and here’s how I find it can help:

1.     Generating content ideas

Business owners often struggle to develop ideas for their social media content constantly. ChatGPT can generate ideas for social media updates and other types of content (such as blogs).

To generate ideas, you provide ChatGPT with a prompt or a topic, and it will generate a range of ideas to explore.

For example, I asked ChatGPT, ‘What are the best romantic movies?’.

 Here’s what I got within 10 seconds:

So, as you can see – you could ask anything related to your industry and quickly get ideas for content and blogs.

 2.     Supporting creativity

You may occasionally get writer's block if you’re trying to write your content yourself. When this happens, you can turn to ChatGPT and see what it comes up with to help you write your content.

As recommended by OpenAI, always fact-check (no matter how amazing they’ve made it sound – authoritative etc.) to ensure what you’re putting out is correct.

To get creative ideas for your content, you could also ask things like, ‘What’s trending in the *insert niche* industry today’. Then you can choose a topic and drill it down further.

You could use ChatGPT to find out what people are talking about.

I’d use ChatGPT for ideas, but I’d never ditch a human content writer or copywriter

Now for the downside of ChatGPT. No matter how innovative this program is, it will never (or at least not yet) be able to replicate your brand voice.

Sure, it could write many social media posts or blogs for you, but they’d be taken from random information on the internet and perhaps even someone else’s entire blog post.

You should be aware that Google penalises duplicate content, so you don’t want to risk your website being taken down by Google.

Google is also changing some ranking factors to rank ‘human-focussed’ copywriting as their little way of telling AI that they can’t bet them! Google is now all over keyword stuffing, and words that don’t sound like a human has written them.

So, use ChatGPT if you like, but be prepared to edit, rewrite and rejig it to make it your original content, written in your brand voice.
